I haven't read this book by Foucault. I have read History of Sexuality vol.1.
Is there no space for it to be discussed? I mean, I understand, it is the Nike of Foucault. But don't you think the way to get people to read more is to let them explore what they have read with other people?
There are other Foucault books, too. I would love to read people discussing them.
Has a group about controlling masses, unintentionally, killed this Tribe?

Re: Other texts?
Fri, December 15, 2006 - 3:49 AMI actually would be really interested in discussing Foucault, chapter by chapter, book by book. History of Sexuality would be the perfect place to start. If you're up to it, let's discuss.

Re: Other texts?
Fri, December 15, 2006 - 6:09 AMyou can discuss anything Foucault-related as you'd like.
i think we started off on the Panopticon bit and how it controls the masses but if you read the actual title of the tribe it says "his theories and applications"...so by all means, go for it! =) -

Re: Other texts?
Mon, December 18, 2006 - 2:24 PMI have just read an interesting article about the common use of the term 'discourse' in academic writing and its supposed links to Foucault:
"A Discourse on Discourse: An Archeological History of an Intellectual Concept" R. Keith Sawyer, Cultural Studies 16 (3) 2002: 433-456.
Worth a read as it sheads a lot of light on the 'discourse.' As this article implies, often people have little knowledge of earlier Foucault, preferring to read Discipline and Punish or H of S.
