Tribe as Panopticon?

I am not prepared right now to delve right into this, nor do I have the time,
but I am wondering what Foucault would say about digitally-mediated communities like tribe.net.

I got an MA in Digial Media Studies, and I at least touched on Foucault's panopticon. I wrote on how the panopticon can function as a metaphor for digital community and control. I have recently been thinking of such things as the" terms of use" here recently.

I have not read "Discipline and Punish" though I know not to get excited as "The History of Sexuality" was hardly erotic, yet very fascinating and stimulating. I know it is time to renew my personal Foucault fund of knowlege.

There is a link to an old grad school piece on my profile but it gets kind of rhetorically long-winded and could have been tightened up a bit.

I will try to get back in the groove again after I read D+P. I've forgotten how much joy I got from reading the brilliance of this man.

don't F'ing bother reading D&P by itself....if u do, you're gonna end up needing translation anyways...and that included the english version of D&P. lol!

but i would need u to clarify how Tribe might function as a P-con. just becuz we are sharing our thoughts & ideas in a public forum.....i certainly wouldn't feel any more monitored than any other website.

sure...there are lotsa hella pretentious people on Tribe and thus, i want to write coherent sentences so i don't come across as a pompous jackass but other than that, i don't edit myself while tribing.

that's funny about your comments on "the history of sexuality." i guess none of us should judge a book by its cover. i remember my ex-gf once bought the Flannery O'Connor book "a good man is hard to find" after we broke up.....probably the last thing those stories were about was the plight of women trying to find a good man.

care to elaborate what your thesis is about in less than 50 words?
