I found bits of the famous Foucault - Chomsky debate on YouTube, here's the link:

www.youtube.com/watch (Part II)

When I saw it, I was more convinced than ever of Foucault's genius... Chomsky just couldn't hold up...

haha...great find!!! i need to save this on savetube so i can store it before the lawyers take it down.

despite his landmark theories, i was never a big fan of Chomsky, the person...he just didn't have the charisma like Foucault does....or maybe it was his uncanny similarity to Samuel Beckett? lol.

haven't been here for awhile, but nice post to revisit...

ah the incredible polarity/dilemma represented in this debate...

while really i am so poorly read in both of these positions, i hope this doesn't seem a wild generalization, but this somehow seems to encapsulate
the 2 qualities and 2 tacts of grappling with the oppressive circumstances of our day that were they to be merged by some alchemical undertaking
might arrive at a beautiful secret weapon needed against our realtime global Idiocracy:

Foucault in his french virtual and frequently useless but pure ballet-of-words-genius to get at the deepest root of the problem...
Chomsky in his utilitarian american moralistic superhero obligation and sincere but dry consciousness to save the day...
( actually b4 watching would have expected mish's comment to be the case, but thought chomsky held his own, but then for me anarcho-syndicalism often has more tangibles to interact than juicy dialectic )

if in some crucible these 2 were forged to illuminate AND act in the same nano-second upon the power that sits over us like a
sumo wrestler wearing a costco shopping cart wrapped around both "his" waist and brain like a loincloth and a blindfold...
would all be suddenly vaporized and humanity liberated.

oh well just a thought , and more online philosophical effluvium ( which i suspect favors the foucaultian approach),
      p.
